We are very excited to congratulate our 2018 Apprenticeship Program graduates! It has been an honor to work with each of you and watch you grow throughout the program. We are proud that all graduates are continuing their career at Kinsley.
Kinsley’s Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs welcomed 25 new apprentices and 22 pre-apprentices this year.
The Kinsley Apprenticeship Program begin in 2000 with 5 apprentices who graduated from the program. Fast forward to 2018 as our incoming class has grown to 25 apprentices eager to learn and explore careers in building construction and ironworking.
Since its start, the program has focused on teaching essential construction skills and standards, not only with classroom training, but also through hands-on experience. Apprentices step foot on our jobsites on their second day, gaining a first look at projects they’ll help construct. Throughout their courses, apprentices learn more about safety standards, CORE modules, construction math, equipment operation, blueprints, placing and finishing concrete, basic rigging and more.
In addition to the apprentices, our team will also work with 22 high school seniors who will participate in our Pre-Apprenticeship Program. During the school year, students will complete a 10-hour OSHA training; meet with Kinsley employees to learn about career opportunities in the industry and our Apprenticeship Program; and participate in four on-site practicums where they will build a six-foot by eight-foot house. Pre-apprentices also learn about blueprint reading, framing, sheeting, and installation of tar paper, shingles, siding and trim.
